How to begin...
What Now?
I was going to say something about writing every day, but I’ve done that already. Admittedly, being reminded to do that is what got me back on here. So… do that. Keep your brain active and make something that helps you develop. In this case, putting the blog on linkedin helps to foster growth. Or “get my name out there”, if I wanted to say something that didn’t make me sound like I work in marketing.
The point of the heading above is that, yes, I’m still working on A Collection of Wanderers, but that’s because I know the story has legs. Trust me, when I’ve drafted enough, I’m moving on to another project. Another thing my mum talked to me about. There’s a sense of relief, of closure, that comes from ending something. Especially something that took a lot of work to get through.
You can come up with your own funny example. I tried to for five minutes just now and I’m coming up blank. I want my book to be finished and worthy of publishing. After I send this post off I’m going onto the word doc. I’m on draft 8.5. Not quite ready to add a ton more stuff or have more people look at it, but I’m reading it myself to see where I can add more. Namely descriptions of places and people. I usually skim those bits to get to the dialogue, because dialogue is snappy and you feel like things are moving faster if the paragraphs are shorter.
I’ll never forgive Foucault for making one long run-on sentence that was 16 lines long. In the book I read anyway.
What Next?
I’m doing a fantasy story next! I love fantasy. Even if it’s not novel-sized, I’ll be very happy to make it. On another note, I found an older fantasy setting I started. Less heroic fantasy and more sword and sorcery (think Conan). Either would be fun to write, but it’s a matter of picking one and sticking to it. Swapping back and forth just gets you nowhere fast.
